Ethan Worthen graduated from Ramona High School, where he served as principal
bassoon in the Advanced Band, principal alto sax in the Jazz Band, and a three-year
drum major. A dedicated and accomplished musician, he also served as a member of
the Civic Youth Orchestra, where highlights include performing in the Nutcracker pit
orchestra and on stage at Carnegie Hall.
Ethan has twice earned the prestigious role of principal bassoon in the California All-
State Wind Symphony and was selected for the SCSBOA All-Southern Conference for
two consecutive years. His talent has been further recognized with a first-place win in
the VOCE Senior Winds division from the Music Teachers Association of California
(MTAC) and as the recent recipient of the H.B. Goodlin Scholarship.
In the fall, Ethan will attend Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music in
Evanston, Illinois, where he will major in bassoon performance. He has been awarded
both a university and music scholarship and looks forward to studying under renowned
bassoonist David McGill. Ethan aspires to become a professional bassoonist in a major
orchestra and is committed to a lifelong journey of musical excellence.
