Lena Masutani was born in the United States and spent much of her childhood living in Thailand and Japan before returning to the U.S. during her junior year of high school. She is currently a senior in the Visual Arts Conservatory at Coronado School of the Arts, where she has continued to develop her artistic voice through fine arts, creative exploration, and collaboration within an inclusive arts community.
As an aspiring artist, Lena is passionate about visual storytelling, illustration, and hand-drawn motion animation. She plans to attend Otis College of Art and Design to major in Illustration and minor in Motion Design, combining fine art media with experimental animation practices. Through her experiences living across different cultures, she has also developed a strong interest in addressing persistent struggles surrounding racial equality and civil rights both within and beyond the United States. Lena hopes to integrate her multicultural perspective into her future work by creating art that invites reflection, sparks discussion, and promotes understanding, empathy, and warmth among people from different backgrounds.
