Devon Jones

“I don’t like doing things part way,” says Devon Jones. “I want to show my younger siblings that they should go to college.” During his time at Kearny School of Digital Media and Design, Devon has been both motivated and a motivator. While earning a 3.85 GPA, he was a member of the football team (2018 MVP, All CIF), the basketball team, the track team, ASB, and the Union Tribune All-Academic Team. Over the four school years he produced graphic design and video materials for several clients and also worked paid internships at the Climate Action Campaign, followed by Mesa Physical Therapy, then switched to working (and is still working) at both Home Depot and Sonic Drive-In, where he provides” excellent customer service while on roller skates.” Says one recommender, “Devon is self-motivated and continually striving to do his best. He sets high goals and standards for himself and is persistent in his efforts to attain them.” Devon was recruited to play football at Augustana University in South Dakota, where he will pursue a degree in Graphic Design with a Minor in Business. He hopes, some day, to start his own graphic design and multimedia company. “[Devon] is inventive, thinks critically, and stays calm under pressure,” says one recommender. Another recommender mentions his problem solving attitude, levelheadedness and outstanding leadership abilities. It’s clear that he also thinks for himself. When our Committee asked him to name a role model, his reply was no one. “Seeing the bad things people do helps me to figure out what’s right,” he says.
